Course Description:
Build a culture of creativity in your school! Stories engage and motivate learners. Digital storytelling is one way for students and teachers to share their knowledge. Learn how to model being a creative communicator through the use of various free web tools that combine, publish content, and share projects. Students will engage in the writing process through simple, yet highly engaging web content. Examples of web tools such as Adobe Creative Express, Storybird, Canva, and more! This is an AWESOME way to learn how to create classroom graphics, engaging presentations and especially for speech and language play, sight words proficiency, practicing with narrative prompts, story starters, creative storytelling and even 2nd language acquisition techniques. This course is SIMPLE to navigate but will WOW your students! Students will determine best practices for digital storytelling projects through their engagement with course readings, their participation in in-class workshop sessions where we experiment with particular tools and publishing platforms, and their implementation of a digital storytelling project. Counts for M.Ed. credit with approval of the Program Director.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Create activities that incorporate highly dynamic presentations into the classroom
Create lessons and activities that will promote interactive learning
Use collaborative tools for creative communication techniques in the classroom as well as with other teachers
Construct a comfort level with emerging technologies and create a toolbox for their own classroom.
Prepare students on how to incorporate technology-enabled narrative (digital storytelling) as an effective pedagogical tool to support teaching and to effectively stimulate learning.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of capturing and manipulating digital text, image, sound, and video;
Integrate different media (text, images, sound, video) into a seamless online environment. This includes gathering, selecting, organizing and evaluating information and present in digital formats
Create narrative projects with digital media that reflect teaching practices
